The valley gate repaired Hanun, and the inhabitants of Zanoah; they built it, and set up the doors thereof, the locks thereof, and the bars thereof, and a thousand cubits on the wall unto the dung gate.

The valley gate was repaired and built by a person by the name Hanun and a group of people the inhabitants of Zanoah

Hanun is a noun taken from the root word Hanan which means mercy. So Hanun would mean merciful.

Inhabitants of Zanoah: Zanoah is a noun taken from the root word Zanah which means stink, reject.

Through the valley of death two groups of people pass it. The people who have received mercy from the Lord, that is to say they are born again, they can say, "Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.:" psalm 23:4 The second group of people they have rejected the mercy of God and God will reject them and they will stink. When they pass through the valley of the shadow of death, they will not have any comfort.
