Believe it or not

Believe it or not

 By Atif Himadeh

The problem of today’s world is: “Who is to believe?” Should I believe God or Man or should I believe Man and doubt God. As for me, I am of those who decided to believe God rather than Man. Despite the inconsistency in opinions, I accepted God’s Word and utterly denounced people’s thoughts. Therefore, our topic for this study is going to be “Who is the creator of this universe?”

The Bible explicitly records to us the story of creation that is the story of how God created the heavens and earth.  The Bible says in Genesis 1: 1, “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.” As for the philosophers, they do not know how the universe came into existence. Even the scientists have no decisive opinion in the matter. This lack of knowledge can be ascribed to their failure to prove unequivocally how the universe came into being. They have many unapproved theories in regard with creation. For example, some scientists claim that the origin of the universe goes back to some kind of steam that took to expand and multiply. However, they do not know from where this steam came from and how it multiplied. The latest theory claims that the world was created from an explosion that took place millions of years ago. This theory is known as “Bang theory”. As we know, all explosions in the world cause destruction and create nothing good. Therefore, these scientists claim theories they fail to prove.

The world, as a matter of fact, wants to believe what the philosophers say rather than God the creator of these thinkers. Those who believe in God are accused of atavism. Not only so, but God also is part of this accusation.

You might wonder why people, in our present generation, refuse to believe God and at the same time are ready to believe what man has to say even if what he says may contradict with God’s Word and cannot be proved.  The answer is found in Psalms 14:1, “The fool hath said in his heart, there is no God.” Once I told my friend, “My watch was created when two pieces of brass and glass came out of a volcano’s nozzle. And during the congealing process it became a watch like this one that observes time.”  My friend responded, “This can’t be. It must be a myth nothing more.” I told him, “Truly it is a myth similar to the story that claims that the world was created by chance or by some sort of a steam that expanded and multiplied; or the story that claims that the universe was created by itself. There was no creator; or that that story that says that the universe was created by some sort of a bang. If you do not believe that there is a watch without a maker how do you expect me to believe that a highly coordinated universe with all that it contains people, animals and trees was created by mere chance. The truth, dear friends, is that God created the heavens and the earth as He said He did. There is not doubt about it.

A dispute broke between Scientist Isaac Newton and Scientist Hale about who created the world. Hale claimed that the he didn’t believe that a creator made the world or the sun or the moon or even the stars. All came into being by mere chance. In order for Newton to prove the foolishness of this belief in a convincing way, he made two beautiful balls one representing the earth and another planet. Upon completion, he placed them on a table in the midst of his reading hall. Then he called Dr. Hale to come for a visit. Upon coming and entering that hall, he noticed these two balls. As a result, he approached them and asked, “What are these? Who made them?” Newton answered and said, “No one made them.” In response Dr. Hale cried loud and said, “How in the world these two balls ended up here?” Newton answered, “This happened by mere chance.” Dr. Newton said, “This is impossible. Someone must have made them because it is not possible for these balls to be here by themselves.”  As a result, Newton started addressing his foolishness and ignorance in rejecting to believe that these balls were created without a maker or that they came by themselves. How then is it possible to believe that our world and the galaxy were created by mere chance and at the same time not believing that a small thing like a picture or a watch came into existence without a maker? Unfortunately, we still hear about those who believe that this universe was created by chance.

Some of these believe that the world has been since everlasting. This is not possible because if the sun, for example, has been since everlasting then it should be an infinite substance to have been burning all this time. The sun contains millions of pounds of that substance that converts into energy every day. If it is multiplied with an infinite number then the sun will be infinite in its size. Moreover,  Man doesn’t want to believe that God exists for many reasons. I will discuss just one of them:

The Bible says in Isaiah 59:2, “But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you that he will not hear.” Most people are not willing to trust God or believe in Him because of their unwillingness to repent from their iniquities and get reconciled with God.  You might ask, “How can I be reconciled with God?” The Bible says in 2Corinthians 5: 18-19, “And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation; To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation..” How He did not count their sins, “For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him” He who knew no sin and who never committed one is Jesus Christ. He was made a sin for us so that we might take His righteousness and on the basis of His cleanliness we might gain access into heaven. No one can get into heaven on the basis of his self cleanliness and righteousness.

Jesus died on the cross and shed His blood to cleanse us from all sin so he who believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. The one that will not perish is he who believes in Him. Beloved, do you believe in Jesus who said that he who believes in Him even if he dies he will live. Sin stands as a separating wall between you and God.

I will now prove that every one believes in the fact of God’s existence despite their denial to it. Once I met a friend and encouraged him to surrender his life to Jesus. He refused. He said that he believed neither in God nor in Hell or heaven. In response, I told him that whether he believed that or not this would not change the fact that there is one and only one God and a Savoir, Jesus Christ. It will not also change the reality that there is a lake burning with fire and sulfur for all those who fail to believe that Jesus is the Savior, on one hand, and a new heaven, a new earth and eternal life to those who believe in Him, on the other.

Later this friend became sick with bone cancer. He was crying out of pain. A lady from the church went to visit him. During her visit she spoke with him about Jesus. In response he said, “I told the pastor that there was neither God nor Jesus the Savior not even heaven or hell. But in fact deep within my heart I believed the opposite. I knew that there was God and that Jesus is the only Savior and there was both heaven and hell. I denied these facts because I knew very well that if I confessed them then I should repent of my sins. But since I loved living in sin, I had to deny God’s existence.” She told him, “Please accept Jesus in your heart to forgive your sins. He responded by saying, “Can I do that now while dying?” She then told him, “Jesus said in John 6: 37, ‘and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out…” Then she encouraged him to receive Jesus in his heart in order to have his sins forgiven. Jesus came to save those who were perished. This man believed in Jesus as his only Savior. As a result his pain waned. Then many days later he died and was joined with the saints in heaven.

Dear friend believe now! For Jesus tells you in the book of Revelations 3: 20, “Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.”

There was another story about a little girl who was dying whose father, was infidel, believed not in God. But at that terrible hour he was sitting sad next to his dear daughter.  Suddenly his daughter spoke up and said, “I see Jesus. Dad can you see Him?” He answered, “No my daughter.” Then she said, “Dad! Can’t you see those nailed hands? They are approaching and welcoming me…. The nailed hands, Dad…!” Then she gave up her spirit in peace. In front of this touching scene, her father’s heart melted. When he buried her, he buried also his unbelief for ever.
